Pottery Studio Marketing Tips
Get On The "Continuing Education Fast Track"
- In most major cities there are free publications that publicize adult courses .. that anyone can sign up for with a fee. Often there are computer courses, fine art, singles events, etc. The brochures which advertise these classes can be found FREE in bookstores, restaurants, supermarkets, etc.
- I called the editor of the magazine/brochure.. and ask to be an instructor for a course. I wrote up the course outline ( a course only lasts 3 hours.. it's not like college ) on "Contemporary Pottery Painting". I sent in pictures and a cover letter describing how great this course is for a beginner. The course comes with FREE appetizers and coffee too.
- They loved the course and offered me a small fee to teach it..and I said " I would do it only if it was done in my studio" They agreed.
- They published the course with color pics of the pottery in their catalog that is distributed throughout Dallas/Fort Worth, so even those who don't signup for the course.. find out about my studio.
- Here is how it works: FUN ED gets a fee from each person.. and they pay me a small fee. Then each student pays me $30.00 to take the class and I basically get great full color advertising.
- Course: I teach basic techniques, such as wax resist on bisque, sponging, carbon paper transfer, using stickers, etc. IT FILLS UP EACH MONTH and I make over $700.00 for the night.
Not bad for "no cost" from me, for getting them in to the studio.. Plus, my studio is exposed to a lot of people who I could not reach otherwise.
Best of all, these are usually people looking for fun activities and once they learn the techniques they fell like experts and keep returning.
The $ 30.00 buys them 3 tiles, which they learn the techniques on.. and one final small piece to paint in any style they wish.
