Pottery Studio Marketing Tips
Diversify
We have just registered the name " Port-O-Pottery" (copyright, trademarked) and we are starting a pottery delivery service. Delivering the pottery and supplies to you Dallas style.. via M class Mercedes van.
These off site pottery party events.. are great for corporate team building, day care centers, schools, parties in homes. etc.
This new entity of my business is shared with a business partner, and this is her business. She gets a fee for the parties and I get the profits from the bisque she gets from me at full price.
So what do you think of the slogan "You'll find no cracks in our Port-Os!" Just kidding I would never use that one. How about "We take the *@%! out of planning a party!.. Just kidding there too. THE ONE WE ARE USING: "Port-O-Pottery.. the portable pottery party for your next corporate event... You'll love getting fired!"
Store Front Window
Put a bulletin board in your front window with pictures of a divers audience on it... children, adults, parties, men, dating couples.. show everyone paints here.
Beanie Babies ????
We are getting Beanie Babies For December.. Free with a purchase of $15.00 or more. Enough said on that one, huh?
Outside Your Store Front
Make sure you have flyers in a canister that says " TAKE ONE" outside your door, some people are intimated to come in, but will after reading about how it works on the flyer.
Put painted ceramic dog dishes outside your store for pet owners walking their dogs. It shows a friendly store and sells pet bowls like nobody's business.
Inside Display Idea
Here is my latest absolute favorite: Buy the little display cards you see at bakeries. Put your prices on these BUT ADD a picture of how the piece can look finished. I cut these out of mold catalogs, and the Boothe publications sent to me in the mail. Because I have a painted example of most of my pieces on the shelves anyway this gives the customer 2 new ideas of how a piece can be painted in two different styles. For example, I have a cookie jar that is completely round, shaped like a ball. I thought it would be great painted as a goldfish bowl, so that is what I did to the piece on my shelf for display, but I also added a picture on the price tag display that just has apples all over it. It is a very simple technique. Having two examples..sells this piece to the "true artist" or the beginner.
On some cards I don't have pictures, but I explain a technique used to paint the example.
FOR EXAMPLE: Do you like how this piece has only one coat of paint but shows no brushstrokes?
It's done with glycerin. Ask to borrow our glycerin bottle and we'll show you how!.
EXAMPLE 2: Do these polka dots look perfect ? This is done with stickers.. we'll show you how.
People notice pieces they never noticed before because they love reading my cards.
