This is a must do "Event" Especially since the December Parties Are So Fresh In Your Mind.
Hold a " Miss Manners" event for girls... in 2 parts.
The first day they come in and plaint a plate ( and possibly a mug ) with all the other girls.. a casual day with cookies and hot cocoa.
A week later they all return and have a guest to teach them fine table etiquette. Each girl is then served on her plate. Break out some silver serving pieces, and they should all come in their best attire for the event, where they will learn what silverware to use, when. How to break bread before eating it. Where to put the silverware after using it. What to do when you bite into a bone or shell. How to eat soup, pasta... whatever. I am planning this as a Mother Daughter event. But it could be done with just the daughters. Eating off the plate they made is a real kicker ! Obviously, the price for this event would vary, depending upon what you serve and if you have to pay your Guest " Manners Teacher"
" Do what I am doing and get your classy mom to do it.. she's been teaching me this stuff for years... who has to know she's my mom?!!
AND Now if we can only teach'em how NOT to break all the cute white things on the shelves..
Guest of Honor
If you have a private party room, get some paints and paint a funky colorful chair, at one of the tables. ( for example dots, stripes etc.) Paint " Guest of Honor" on the chair. We have a table that is made of about 8 different ceramic pieces glazed and glued together, and all painted differently. The top of the table is made from a platter and says " Queen for a day".. On top of this platter I have a crown... kids love to wear it when they are the guest of honor and it's a cool conversation piece during adult parties.
Newsletter
Get you customers to sign a guest book listing their address and publish a newsletter that goes out every few months. Mention what is different about your studio, explain a few techniques and painting tips and have a calendar of events included. Your computer can print labels.
Adult Paint By Number
Offer some bisque pieces with pre-drawn pencil designs if you are an artist or have one on staff. You can charge extra for it. For example, take a plain plate and draw vines with fruits or draw some fish on a vase. Sell it for people who want nice detail pieces but can't draw well. It's an adult paint by number... you can even suggest colors to paint the items. I heard another studio was doing this too, and I wish I could remember who it was so I could mention their name.
I stay open til 10:30 free of charge for parties of 8 or more. It gets in people who otherwise would not otherwise hear of the store. Whoever wants to have a " Ladies Night Out" party tells all her friends.. I know some stores charge $100.00 to stay open after hours.. but I do a lot more business, and getting new customers by not charging. as I frequently say " I am married to my business, so I don't mind."
Just recently a group of ladies not only stayed and each painted $50.00 in pieces, but they also tipped me, $21.00 for all the individual help I gave them. Since the store was closed I could sit and draw things for them. I am not tooting my own horn, just saying that when you make your customers happy, and they don;t fell overcharges, they TELL ALL THEIR FRIENDS. I tell them to bring wine and dinner, if they want. Always, Always Always, they become repeat customers. Don't you.... when you feel you have been pampered..
To me it's worth the price of a $300.00 ad., but all I did was stay open late.
Well gotta go... Hugs to everyone !!
