Backgrounds can make or break your efforts when developing your ceramic pieces.

Apply this simply Funky Gingham background... with CFE.. Professional Studio Pigments.. Underglaze for bisque.

Add additional Decorations if you like...

Then..  Apply CG900 Clear Glaze or  CSP03 Matt Medium for a beautiful Matt finished surface..

To Create Gingham.. you can choose the Colors for Earth Color Concentrates, or The Professional Studio Pigments.. And you will need the Adapter Cap and any sized tip..

ALL of the CFE products packaged in the 1 and 2 ounce bottles.. will accept The Cap Adapter.. The Cap adapter, simply threads onto the bottle. Then you thread on a tip of your choice to the adapter cap. With CFE every bottle converts to a detailed applicator..

You will also need a Yellow Hydra Sponge.

Using a Large Sharp Scissors Follow the photo instructions for cutting your sponge brushes..
1. Cut in half.
2. Cut a half in the angle shown.
3. Trim the pointed end of your angle cut.
4. You will then have a FLAT. It's the flat that is loaded with paint and brushes the surface of the ware.

To Make a narrower sponge Brush.. Simply cut the sponge brush you create in steps 1 through 3 above...... and with the scissors, cut it lengthwise.
The length of the flat brush surface has not changed.. only the width.

This make your own.. sponge brush is preferred for this funky-gingham technique rather than a standard brush. A regular brush often deposits access product on either side of your stripe because of the pressure applied while stroking..  Your sponge brush will glide along the surface of the bisque depositing a smooth line of PSP's or Color Concentrates..
1.Load the flat side of your sponge brush with your choice of PSP Color.

Create Stripes by gliding the sponge from one edge of your piece to the other.

Move over the width of your sponge brush.. and begin another stripe. ( you will have a white area between each stripe.

Work stripes in this direction around the entire piece..

Step One
2.Attach the adapter cap to your PSP bottle.. (which ever color you are using) Add a tip of your choice.. and wiggle a line on either side of each stripe.

Step 2
3. Turn your piece, and repeat step one and two in the opposite direction.

Because of your application, your gingham with appear to have 3 different shadings.. plus the white background.

Step3

1. The lightest is where the product was only deposited once,,

2. The medium colors value is where the product overlapped, creating 2 coats of color..

3. The deepest value color occurs in the lines created with the tip.

The whole effect is very nice no matter which of the 61 colors of PSP's that you choose.

Once you learn Funky Gingham, Plaids are only a step away..

We love the soft baby type plaid backgrounds that can be achieved for Baby Feet and Hand Prints..
